What
is the Academy?
To
provide the link from Junior to the Senior section, we have created
an "Academy" for players from under 16's to Colts (under
19's). The academy creates a player pathway towards senior, representative
and competitive rugby. Split into two parts,

Why
create the Academy?

Academy:
Definition
- an
institution for the advancement of art or science or literature
- a
school for special training
- a
learned establishment for the advancement of knowledge
And
this definition should be the main aim of the Academy We are looking
to continue the successful integration of Youth rugby within ORFC,
with a consistent play style & club ethos. A successful colts
section in ORFC will see the promotion of players through to the
1st Team Structure
The
Academy Senior (U19) & Junior Colts (U17) squads will merge
on Academy lines. The Colts are the youth representatives of ORFC,
playing in leagues and managed as a club side. ORFC should always
play its strongest teams in League and Cup competitions with the
senior (Academy) team the lead for selection.
Aims
of the Academy
All
players should aspire to selection for the senior (Academy) side
but probably each team will be mainly players of the "same
age". However exceptional players will be promoted or placed
depending on ability, need and circumstance.
Targets
of the Academy
- We
aim to be in the top leagues for both our Junior & Senior
teams, to be in the top three in our respective leagues.
- We
aim to win the league and cup competitions for each age group
and to qualify for the national knockout cups.

developing players capable of representing County and further

Squad Coach
Squad
Coach, responsible for Training evenings and match
preparation. He will develop fitness (& coordination with
senior club coaching), playing style and be a part of the selection
team (as part of the management team). He will give guidance and
direction of assistant coaches and provide continuity of training
and playing style with senior club. He will be supported by specialist
club coaches and train on Thursdays to optimise coaching time.
Team
Management,
responsible for this squad will be both the Senior & Junior
players. Each squad will have ideally a Team Manager responsible
for:

Selection - Contact of squad, input at selection

Discipline - Recording attendance, performance and discipline
issues
- c.
Recruitment - Contact point and information
- d.
Finance - Remaining within budget set and proposing fund requirements
to the playing commitee
- e.
Individual player development - Recording and communicating
player feedback
- f.
Kit - Ensuring kit is safe, usable and returned
Youth
Development Manager
- A new role, the Youth Development Manager responsible communication
with Senior Club & Director of Rugby. He will be responsible
for the promotion of individual players to the senior club and
feedback to club selection committee on player development. He
has a strategic role within Academy rugby to identify individuals
to benefit from one on one coaching from senior players/coaches.
