Oundle RFC - Academy

What is the Academy?

To provide the link from Junior to the Senior section, we have created an "Academy" for players from under 16's to Colts (under 19's). The academy creates a player pathway towards senior, representative and competitive rugby. Split into two parts,

  • Senior Academy (U19) Page
  • Junior Academy (U17)

Why create the Academy?

  • Create Identity - Player retention and recruitment
  • Enforce Club Loyalty - Special feel, kit and more understanding of expectations.
  • Consistent Coaching - By broadening the base of coaches, we have a wider pool of experience to take on best practice.
  • Development to Senior Rugby - Part of the senior section coaching
  • Support representative rugby
  • Increase Profile - PR and sponsorship opportunities

Academy: Definition

  • an institution for the advancement of art or science or literature
  • a school for special training
  • a learned establishment for the advancement of knowledge

And this definition should be the main aim of the Academy We are looking to continue the successful integration of Youth rugby within ORFC, with a consistent play style & club ethos. A successful colts section in ORFC will see the promotion of players through to the 1st Team Structure

The Academy Senior (U19) & Junior Colts (U17) squads will merge on Academy lines. The Colts are the youth representatives of ORFC, playing in leagues and managed as a club side. ORFC should always play its strongest teams in League and Cup competitions with the senior (Academy) team the lead for selection.

Aims of the Academy

All players should aspire to selection for the senior (Academy) side but probably each team will be mainly players of the "same age". However exceptional players will be promoted or placed depending on ability, need and circumstance.

Targets of the Academy

  • We aim to be in the top leagues for both our Junior & Senior teams, to be in the top three in our respective leagues.
  • We aim to win the league and cup competitions for each age group and to qualify for the national knockout cups.
  • Eventually developing players capable of representing County and further

Who will be involved?

  • Squad Coaches
  • Team Managers
  • Youth Development Manager
  • Senior Squad Coach

Squad Coach, responsible for Training evenings and match preparation. He will develop fitness (& coordination with senior club coaching), playing style and be a part of the selection team (as part of the management team). He will give guidance and direction of assistant coaches and provide continuity of training and playing style with senior club. He will be supported by specialist club coaches and train on Thursdays to optimise coaching time.

  • c. Recruitment - Contact point and information
  • d. Finance - Remaining within budget set and proposing fund requirements to the playing commitee
