Child
Protection Policy
Mick Birchall, ORFC Child Protection
Officer
We
recognise that in order for your child to have fun whilst playing
rugby that we form a partnership between parents and the club.
We encourage, welcome and need your involvement. All our coaches
are volunteers and have become involved either as a parent or
player, and deserve your support.
In
return for your support we seek to provide a safe environment
in which your child can have fun and develop we operate a policy
of
CHILDREN
FIRST – WINNING SECOND
This
policy allows us to be competitive whilst reinforcing the issues
of teamwork, friendship and fair play.
Coaching
(Our responsibilities)
We
provide qualified coaches at all levels that are assisted each
week by parents (without whom we could not hope to manage our
ever increasing numbers). All our coaches subscribe to the Good
Coaches Guide, which has an emphasis on Fun, Enjoyment and Skill
Development. Each training session will contain a mixture of individual
skills development, teamwork and match preparation. We recognise
that children develop at different rates and therefore we try
to operate a policy of Everyone Plays on match days to keep everyone
keen and interested.
We
provide an input to coaches on child protection issues, and on
how to develop children in a safe, positive yet challenging way.
We seek to provide a safe playing and training environment supported
by appropriate equipment and match fixtures.
The Good
Parents Code (Your responsibilities)
To
enable your child to get the most out of their involvement in
rugby we need a partnership between parents and coaches and ask
that you read and then apply the attached Good Parents Code coupled
with the Good Spectators Code. We also ask that you encourage
your child to play by the Good Players Guide and support the coaches
in reinforcing it.
The Good
Players Code
This
simple code encourages all our youngsters to play in the true
spirit of rugby that of, Teamwork, Respect for Others (whether
they be coaches, referees or the opposition) and Fair Play.
All
coaches include this code as a theme that runs through all their
training and on match days it is further reinforced by referees.
